Traditional British sports car. Built from 1953 to 1955. Originally fitted with an obsolete 550-15 crossply tyre, with the option of a 590-15. The best radial replacement tyre would be a 165R15.

The Triumph TR2 went on sale in 1953, based on a revamped pre-war Standard Flying Nine chassis. The first cars had a long-door design but in 1954 the doors were shortened, while a hard top and wire wheels joined the options list. The Triumph TR3 superseded the TR2 in 1955 but the changes were restricted to more power (95bhp instead of 90bhp) and the fitment of an egg-crate grille. There was more power again from September 1956 (now 100bhp) and front disc brakes became standard.

In September 1957 the TR3 was superseded by the TR3A which brought a full-width grille, plus improved seats and trim. The car was only unofficially known as the TR3A though; Triumph still called it the TR3. A 2.2-litre engine option was introduced in 1959 then in 1961 the TR4 replaced the TR3A, with an all-new bodyshell.
