Price: £60.00 - £69.99, Brand: Nankang | Reliant Sabre 1961 to 1964
The first Reliant sportscars, the Sabre Four and Six can both be fitted with 155R15 radial tyres. The Six had the option of a 165R15.
Reliant's first entry into the sportscar market was almost an accident. Employed to re-engineer and assemble a Ford based special (the Sabra) on behalf of the Israeli company Autocars, Reliant built a RHD version to sell in the UK. Named the Sabre (starting the company's sword-based naming strategy), it didn't sell in vast numbers. This was despite being offered as a coupe as well as a convertible, and with a Ford straight-six (as the Sabre Six) from 1962. Less challenging front-end styling was introduced in the same year, and the factory campaigned cars in various European rallies.
Despite few being built, and quite a few of them actually being sent to Israel, the Sabre is surprisingly visible in the UK circuit racing world!
