Brand: Pirelli, Width: 185 | Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 1972 to 1973
Famous homologation 911. Built from 1972 to 1973. Originally fitted with a 185/70VR15 radial front tyre and a 215/60VR15 rear.
One of the greatest homologation specials of all time? Quite possibly, it certainly managed to concentrate all the best characteristics of the 911 into a single model. Porsche took an S model, installed a bigger engine, then removed everything they could, made the bodypanels thinner, and perfected its setup. Even to the point of a staggered tyre spec for the first time on the 911. Porsche needed to build 500 in order to qualify the 911 for GT racing (a process that ended with a Le Mans win), but they ended up building more than 1500, as the motoring world realised it was the sweet-spot of 911 roadcar enjoyment. Highly valued today, and much replicated (for the very best of reasons).
