Price: £0.00 - £39.99, Price: £50.00 and above, Brand: Vredestein, Profile: 80, Width: 155/80 | Porsche 914 & 914/6 1969-1975
The four-cylinder cars were fitted with a 15-inch wheel and a 155SR15 tyre, with the option of a 165SR15. The 914/6 had a wider wheel, with a 165R15 tyre, or an optional 14-inch wheel with a 185HR14 tyre.
Porsche has a history of working closely with tyre manufacturers to specify the best tyres for their cars, and these are commonly marked with a "N' number to indicate approved Porsche fitments (N0, N2, N3 etc).
It's tempting to see this as Porsche's first attempt at a Boxster, as its mid-engined, 2-seat push-me-pull-you design is very similar, and it was intended to generate a larger sales-base in the same way. But, it's a much more complicated story than that. It was developed in a partnership with VW, as part of a joint marketing drive in the US. As such, it had a VW, and was badged as a VW-Porsche. Sales in the US were quite good by Porsche standards, but not by VW's, and they aren't a common sight in the UK. The 914/6 was a 'Porsche-ified' version, with a detuned 2 litre version of the 911's flat-6 engine. Very few were built.
