MG C Roadster and GT 1967 to 1969

Straight-six re-engined B. Built from 1967 to 1969.

Originally fitted with a 165R15 radial.

The MGC is more than just an MGB with a six-cylinder engine. Compared with its four-cylinder sibling, the MGC got a revised bonnet line to accommodate the taller engine and the floorpans forward of the car’s centre were redesigned to provide the necessary clearance. As a result the front suspension also had to be changed, with the development team settling on longitudinal torsion bars, running back to a central crossmember.

The floorpans were redesigned to accommodate an optional automatic transmission and the radiator was moved forward eight inches, as well as being increased in size. Because of the extra weight over the front wheels, a less direct steering rack was fitted, with 3.5 turns between locks instead of the B’s 2.9. The wider wheels also grew to 15 inches in diameter.

The C was launched in roadster and GT forms in October 1967, but it was greeted with little enthusiasm as it was dynamically disappointing. After just two years MG gave up and the final cars were produced in August 1969.
