Jaguar XK140
Jaguar's modernised XK120, with more luxury. Produced from 1954 to 1957. Originally fitted with a 600-16 crossply tyre, a suitable radial replacement would be a 185HR16, or a 600R16.
Most of Jaguar's XK sales were in the US, and while the XK120 had been a big success, there was room for improvement to make the car more appealing. Buyers wanted something more usable and even more powerful and the result was the XK140, which was an XK120 with an enlarged cabin and an engine rated at 190bhp in place of the previous 180bhp.
As with the XK120, buyers who wanted even more power could choose the Special Equipment model with a Jaguar C-Type cylinder head, which raised peak power to 210bhp. All XK140 buyers could now spend some extra cash on overdrive, which hadn't been offered on the XK120.
The XK140 brought a raft of other changes over the XK120, including thicker bumpers and the adoption of rack-and-pinion steering. Indicators were now fitted, the Fixed Head Coupé was six inches longer than before and the roof was an inch higher to provide space for a 2+2 seating configuration.
