Brand: Firestone | Ford Cortina Mk2 1500 1966

Higher specification versions of Ford's best selling saloon. Only manufactured in 1966, then replaced by the 1600. Originally fitted with a 560-13 crossply tyre, with the option a 165SR13 radial, which can be fitted in place of the crossply.

In 1966 Ford released the Cortina Mk2, a reskinned version of its million-selling predecessor the Cortina Mk1. There were 1.3 and 1.5-litre engines, with options including an automatic gearbox, column gearchange and bench front seat. Buyers could choose between base, Deluxe, Super and GT trims, then in 1967 Ford expanded the range with a Cortina Mk2 estate and the Ford Cortina Lotus. At the same time 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre Crossflow engines replaced the earlier units.

One of the most sought after Cortina Mk2s of all arived in September 1967, the 1600E, with 1600GT mechanicals and Lotus-spec suspension. Equipment included a walnut dash and door cappings, along with comprehensive instrumentation.

In 1968 the Cortina Series 2 was launched, with a remote gearchange for all models and reclining seats available as an option (but standard on the 1600E) – there was also a new dash and revised seats. Production of the Cortina Mk2 lasted until August 1970 when the Cortina Mk3 took over.
