Ferrari 308 GT4
Ferrari's first attempt at the mid-engined 3 litre V8, built from 1973 to 1980.
The original standard tyre was a 205/70VR14 radial.
It was in 1973 that the 308 GT4 broke cover at the Paris motor show; the first production V8 from Ferrari and the first to be designed by Bertone. In 1975 the 208 GT4 was introduced for the Italian market; it was a tax-break special with a 170bhp 1991cc engine.
The 308 GTB also arrived in 1975, sharing the GT4's 2926cc V8 with 230bhp. The first 712 cars had a glassfibre bodyshell, but from 1977 this was switched to steel and at the same time the targa-topped 308 GTS was introduced.
By 1980 the Ferrari 308 GT4 had been replaced by the Mondial, after 2826 examples had been built, but the 308 GTB and 308 GTS continued. They were fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection in 1980, to become the 308 GTBi and GTSi, with power dropping to 214bhp. However, the adoption of four-valve heads in 1982 increased the power to 240bhp, with the car becoming the 308 QV (quattrovalvole). Production of the 308 GTB and 308 GTS ended in 1985 when the 328 took over.
