Brand: Pirelli, Profile: 80, Width: 185 | Bristol 404, 405 & 406 1953 to 1961

From the start of Bristol's aerospace styling to the end of the straight-six!

The smaller, lighter 404 was fitted with a 550-16 crossply tyre, which can be replaced by a radial 550R16 or 165R16. The 4-door and drophead 405, and the 406 were fitted with 575-16, or optional 600-16 crossplies. These can be replaced with 600R16 or 185R16 radials if required. It's a good idea to make sure any tyre you fit is of a suitable speed rating for these cars. Please contact us for information on this and radial replacements.

These models were Bristol honing their offering. The 404 coupe was released first, as a beautiful, lighter, short-wheelbase variant. The later, larger version, the 405, was Bristol's only 4-door, and was also offered as a drophead. The large coupe 406 replaced both, and its body style was retained by Bristol for its following models. There were also some very coll Zagato versions.

The cars were getting more sophisticated and luxurious, and their styling was intended to honour the aerospace company that built them. The small engine was becoming an issue though, as Jaguars were cheaper and faster.
