In 1972 Michelin launched the XVS, an uprated version of the XAS to cope with the faster vehicles of the era. The asymmetry of the XAS remains with inner and outer tread patterns entirely different to deal with their separate roles. To reduce road noise, an important consideration on the high-end, high speed cars the XVS was fitted to, a variable-pitch tread featured. There are three sizes in the XVS range.
